Stopped shutdown

Hi all,

has anyone of you observed Servat Salamander stopping a Windows shutdown? I don't mean the cases when there are some files or ftp/scp connections open. But in my case it happens even when there are no open connections or files.

It occurs wery unpredictable and not with each shutdown. Sometimes when I let my Windows shutdown, many running applications close itselfs but when it comes for Servant Salamander, it remains on the top, no message appears and shutdown is stopped.

It is quite anoying because I offen need to quickly leave my office and I don't check whether the computer was switched off really. And when I come back, I see that the computer is still running with Servant Salamder as a top application.

I cannot find out some regularity. It shows to be very random to me.

Has anyone observed a similar behaviour?

Bye, Lukas

I don't have this problem, but I have several questions:
What OS/FS do you use?
Do you have any SS plugin loaded all time?
How do you initiate windows shutdown?
When this happen to you, you probably cannot make a snapshot of failed SS from another SS instance?

Windows XP/NTFS SP2, fully up to date with all patches. I observed the same problem in my former office, home and even on the computer of my brother, all of them have Windows XP.

I'm not sure... But no archive or plugin FS (ftp/scp).

How do you initiate windows shutdown?
I use `Start menu' to shutdown system. ;)

Sure I can, but this is useless, It looks and behave like if no shutdown occured. The only difference is, that some other apps did close and many icons disappeared from the system tray.

Doing shutdown seccond time allways succeeds.

Check this two pages how to eliminate these widespread WXP SP2 shutdown troublemakers:
  1. User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
  2. AUTOMATIC WINDOWS UPDATE INSTALLATION
I have those problems on my system and cured both successfully.
